A poster design commission gives a corporate designer the opportunity to join many of art history's most luminescent figures. Artists such as Piccasso, Manet, Rockwell Mucha and Beardsley supplemented their painting income with commercial poster design, leaving behind them a rich visual tradition. Who could forget the striking commercial posters of Toulouse-Lautrec that so embody Parisian culture?
The Palladium American Songbook Series of Posters I designed for Paul Wilborn and his band needed to present the historical context of the show's subject matter in a contemporary way. Using fonts and typographic styling indicative of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco era set against the striking contrast and angularity of contemporary poster design, the series creates a strong identity for Paul Wilborn's shows.
